西班牙語主題字彙: Puntos Cardinales 主要方位(東西南北)

指南針上的東西南北主要方位， Este 、Oeste 、Sur  、Norte 

英文叫 cardinal directions 或  cardinal points

西班牙文叫 Puntos Cardinales

但是，報紙書籍等較有文化的媒體，對於東西南北方位之用字, 多少會用些典故 => 

例:

東 Este  (常見Oriente o Levante)   adj. Oriental

     Levante : la dirección por donde sale el Sol   太陽出來方向

     Oriente:  de Latin  orīri (?),  意思 ‘aparecer’,  ‘nacer’. 太陽出現之處

西 Oeste (常見Occidente o Poniente)   adj. Occidental

     Poniente: la dirección por donde se pone el Sol.  太陽落下方向

     Occidente:  de Latin occidĕre (?) ‘caer’.  太陽落下之處  ( occidentalización 西化  )

南 Sur  (常見Meridíon o austro) adj.  austral  y  Meridional

       Meridión : de Latin meridies (?) (medio día)  北半球正午太陽在南方

       Austro:  viento que sopla del Sur. 南風  (adj. austral  ~ 與"澳大利亞"有關聯?  )

北 Norte  (常見 Septentrión o Boreas)   adj.  Septentrional y Boreal

      Boreas:  Greek god of North Wind 希臘神話的北風名字

      Septentrión : de Latin "siete bueyes”  七頭牛("戰馬車星座") 指向北方  (註: séptimo 第七 )

其他補充

The terms zonal and meridional are used to describe directions on a globe. 

Zonal means "along a latitude circle" or "in the west–east direction";

while meridional (子午線) means "along a longitude circle"  or "in the north–south direction".

The term meridional, sometimes abbreviated to "Mer.", was used in historical astronomy

to indicate the southern direction on the celestial globe,

together with septentrional ("Sep.") for northern, 

oriental ("Ori.") for eastern and

 occidental ("Occ.") for western
